Nala Mapping

Urban flooding in Karachi, worsened by unplanned development, clogged drains, and encroachments, poses a major challenge. To address this, TTRC and UIL launched the Nala Mapping Project, analysing flood-prone areas like Manzoor Colony and Orangi Nala using advanced mapping, community engagement, and architectural expertise.

Their findings identified key obstructions, silting, and drainage failures, leading to targeted recommendations for urban planners and policymakers. This initiative not only documented root causes but also set a precedent for climate-resilient urban planning, integrating infrastructure adaptation and community-led maintenance models to build more flood-resilient communities.
